I had jury duty for the first time last week. Though it wasn't the first time I was called, it was the first time I was actually able to go. Frankly, after having been through the process, I don't know why everyone hates jury duty so much.
I checked in at 8:15 AM, and wasn't actually called to do anything until about 2:45 PM. In those 6 and a half hours, I checked email and applied for jobs with the help of my laptop and the free wi-fi, drank complementary coffee, and read my Time Out New York magazine.
And people get upset about having to do this? Friends, it's like Starbucks only the coffee is free, the wi-fi is functional, there is ample seating for everyone AND you get paid 5 dollars!
I was joking to my brother that if I had a car at my disposal all the time, I would drive myself to the courthouse and just sit there to get work done. Seriously. Too bad that I have to wait 3 years before being called again (in this county, anyway).

You are so right. I was thinking about that the other day for some reason. I haven't been to jury duty for a while but a co worker was and it made me think - jeeze, I wish I had jury duty.
The only thing that could have made your day better was booze.
I want jury duty. SO BADLY.
