Pedicures for men: yay or nay?

Wednesday, July 7, 2010
I was getting a pedicure today, and was jolted out of my foot-massage-induced relaxing coma by a hot guy sitting down 2 chairs over. I snapped to attention because a) hello, hot guy, and b) hot guy getting a pedicure.

Of course, my first thought was that he was possibly gay. He wasn't flamboyant as stereotypical gay men are, and sadly his brief conversations with his pedicurist didn't mention anything about dating men. Or women. Or anyone. So I'll never know.

Then I wondered if he was metrosexual, but he was too poorly dressed. Which isn't to say he was dressed badly, he was just dressed...normally. Like every other white 20-something non-hipster New York guy walking down the street.

Over the course of my pedicure, I kept trying to sneak glances over at him to see what his deal was. And also, because he was hot, in case I needed to remind you. But I couldn't tell what book he was reading or really anything else significant about him.

This led me to thinking that what if, just maybe, he was a regular non-metrosexual straight guy who wanted his feet cleaned up?

And then I realized something.

I could never date a guy who gets pedicures. It seems silly to say this because pedicures are pretty insignificant, and boy feet are nasty. There's no reason to make my already ridiculous standards even more stringent, plus, imagine dating someone who had feet that weren't gross or stinky? How nice that would be.

But no. Pedicures? No. They are for me. Not my boyfriend. I want guys I date to like beer, meat, and boobs. To stop listening to me when there's football on TV. And to...not get pedicures.

Is this normal? Are pedicures a turnoff for anyone else?

I think I could accept it in a guy as long as he was just doing it so his feet didn't look disgusting, and wasn't wearing coloured nail polish. Or a french pedicure. Which would be even worse...

I don't think it's weird...maybe if they're like "omg I totally need a pedi" lol. I've asked ManFriend if he'd do it or even go with me and have one done and he was completely opposed to it. I see nothing wrong if I ask a guy to do one with me :)

No, no, no, and absolutely not. I'm usually open minded about many things, but I see men getting their nails done, waxing their eyebrows, and walking down the street with purses (they call it a "travel bag" or "carry on bag", or some other nonsense, but a purse is still a purse). I have no idea why I'm getting fired up about this.

Uhhhhh I'm on the fence about this one. Part of me says yes and part of me says hell no. Maybe if he got them and I just didn't know about it? Ignorance is bliss. Mega knows :)

I used to work at a salon that did manis/pedis/facials as well as the usual hair stuff and every once in a while this dude would come in for a mani & pedi. Sometimes a facial. He was a nice enough guy but it kinda weirded everyone out. Like, why is a dude in here getting a mani? But then, I don't really think he was much of a dude.

I don't think I wouldn't date a guy solely on his receiving pedi's, but I'd be all "what? really?" and an uncomfortable silence would ensue before he got all embarrassed and I tried to backtrack. So if you're a dude and getting pedi's just don't tell me, k?
