Mindy Kaling can read my mind

Sunday, January 29, 2012
You know how sometimes you encounter a line from a song or book or whathaveyou and you just think to yourself, "OMG THIS IS SOOO MY LIFE IT'S LIKE THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN FOR ME OMG OMG FOREVER."??? Well, that happened to me.

If this was 2002, I would put the line as my AIM away message, or if it was REALLY deep, I might even give it more semi-permanent recognition in my actual AIM profile.

But it's not 2002, so I'm putting it in my blog instead. Deal with it.

Back story - just yesterday I returned from a lovely 5 day trip to Florida, where I helped my grandma run errands, sort through paperwork, and talk about how upsetting it is that none of her grandchildren or great-nieces/nephews are getting married anytime soon. I also spent an obscene amount of time by the pool, soaking up the 80 degree weather and reading lots of books.

One of the books I read was Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling. I wanted to read this book not because I'm a fan of The Office (I've seen all of maybe 3 episodes), but because I'm a fan of intelligent, confident women who aren't afraid to assert their intelligence while also kind of making fun of themselves (see also: Bossypants, by Tina Fey).

In the beginning of the book, Mindy (we're on the first name basis, obvs) lists a few alternate titles she considered for the book. Among them:

When Your Boyfriend Fits Into Your Jeans and Other Atrocities

Harry Potter Secret Book #8

So You've Finished Chelsea Handler's Book, Now What?

And my personal favorite, the one that speaks to me like some awesomely emo song lyrics did when I was in college...

There Has Ceased To Be A Difference Between My Awake Clothes and My Asleep Clothes

STOP BEING INSIDE MY HEAD, MINDY.

Also, maybe I shouldn't be such a slob. But when the siren song of luxurious fleecey sweatpants beckons, I am powerless. Oh well.

I have nothing to say so here are some pictures of me because I am obviously very vain

Or bored, whatever. Or, I just spent an hour writing a blog post about what unemployment is like but it's intense to the point of me not even wanting to post it yet. Whatever. So instead, here is what I guess people call GRATUITOUS PHOTO(s) OF YOURSELF time.

This picture is staged, calm down everyone. I swear I am fully conscious. And in New Zealand, not that you can tell. I was 19 years old and seriously, what kind of nasty drinks were we drinking? Blech.

The fact that I'm pretty sure my hair won't do this anymore makes me kind of sad.

I love this.

My friend was having a "dress like a president" themed birthday party. This is my test run of my outfit, which is fortunate since she ended up canceling the theme and I sadly never wore this ensemble ever again. God I love costume parties. AND THOSE CLOSETS. They are one of the few things I miss about Boston.

To tell the story behind why my face is in a cup of jello would take too long and no one would find it funny so...here you go. Let's just chalk this up to "college."

Yup. This happened. For real.

I think Lacey made me this South Park inspired avatar. Perfectly appropriate.

Dan sent me this shirt because I won some kind of contest. It is excellent.

Remember when I said before that my hair wouldn't do that crazy frizzy thing? I take it back. This is my excellent (if I do say so myself) impression of Professor Trelawney from Harry Potter Festathon

Well, I kind of can't believe that I'm actually posting this. Sorry everyone. Can we say, "filler"?

Easily amused

I like to think that I make apartment living a little more interesting. I am very easily amused, and so doing simple things that are too dumb to even be called pranks brings me endless entertainment. First, roommate #1 came home to this:

If you don't know who or what that is, don't look into it. Watching a video of this guy was the most frightening 10 minutes of my life.

I thought my other roomies would feel left out, so I gave them this gift:

I'm sure everyone who is committed to watching good TV knows this guy.

And then I had some fun with our spice rack. Look closely.

In preparation for our holiday party, I spent an hour or so at work on this bad boy. Sadly you can't see the part where I wrote about strippers. I was very proud of it.

The most recent addition to my repertoire of stupid antics has been labeling non-bacon things as bacon.

Now that I am jobless, I really need entertainment so I welcome any and all suggestions as to other dumb-yet-amusing things to do around the house.
